Westcoast Shutout

Though Monday's night's game may not have been pretty in parts, a 1-0 victory is ultimately a beautiful thing.

The win over the Mariners was the Birds' first 1-0 victory since May 9, 2007, when they blanked the Tampa Bay Rays in extra innings at home.

In that game, Erik Bedard, Tuesday's opponent in Seattle, pitched seven shutout innings with 10 Ks, three walks, and three hits. Danys Baez, Chris Ray, and John Parrish each chipped in a scoreless inning of relief in the 10-inning victory. Aubrey Huff's walk-off homer won it for the O's.

Monday night's game was the fourth shutout of Rich Hill's career and the first 1-0 win. Hill tossed his lone complete game shutout on Sept. 16, 2006, in a 4-0 victory for the Cubs.

Other shutout victories that Hill started for the Cubs were as follows:

April 14, 2007, 7-0

April 19, 2007, 3-0

Sept. 29, 2007, 4-0
